Kim Hankyul
Unheimlich
2.5 - 18.5 2025

The exhibition 'Unheimlich' presents objects and text installations that the artist created over his residency period in NEJD. Seen and written through a keen sense of the domestic environment, this exhibition raises the question of what home is. The title, unheimlich, which translates as uncanny, concisely shows the artist's worldview that reads subversive values from the dissonance of the senses, and at the same time, represents the artist's thoughts on the most familiar personal spaces - the body and home - that are intensively shown in the exhibition.

Kim Hankyul (b.1990) is an artist based in Oslo, Norway. With evocative soundscapes and mechanical movements, his work represents the subversive and spontaneous vitality of subcultures and marginalized beings. Hankyul holds a bachelor degree in Aesthetics from Seoul National University and a master degree in Art from The Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen and his work has been awarded the Kistefos Prize and the Sparebankstiftelsen DNB’s grant in Norway. His work has recently been presented at Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo (2024), Salón Acme, Mexico City (2024), Pal Project, Paris (2024), and Entrée Bergen (2023) and included in the Astrup Fearnley Collection.

The exhibition is supported by Göteborgs Stad and Kulturrådet
